Walking in Lucan 1

Taking the camera for a walk in Lucan

If you don’t fit, put the camera through the the gate…

I enjoyed my walk through Lucan but not the difficulty of finding a parking place!

  1. I was wondering how you got that shot of the gate lodge. πŸ™‚ Elly and George are living just up the road from me now. They were actually closer before but we didn’t know it.

  2. Anthony ~ Does that mean I get to meet you on one of my visits?

Andrew ~ I saw several churches, only have pictures of one and it is not a good shot.

Darren ~ I thought it looked well the day I went walking.

At least next time, you’ll know to leave the car behind and and use your roller blades instead! πŸ˜‰

  4. Lucan’s nice.

Or at least the bits that I used to see when taking the back roads from Blanchardstown to Maynooth so as to avoid the M50 toll booth.

I remember Lucan before the days of Motorways. We travelled along the thumphety thump surface of the Naas Road before passing through Lucan, Leixlip, Maynooth, Naas and the Curragh on our journey across and south of the Island. The Spire of the Spa Hotel told us we were out of Dublin back then, while in recent years it was a landmark for turning off the N4 to a warm welcome from Elly & George.

The back road you mention is pretty, but I dislike the very sharp turn so avoid it when on my own.

  6. “but I dislike the very sharp turn”

I’m presuming this is the near 180 turn at the junction down the road from Fort Lucan? Or is there another turn that doesn’t immediately come to mind…?

I am not sure what you call the area, but it is the only sharp turn that I know of. You turn almost back on yourself and uphill with oncoming traffic in the middle of the road.

  8. I love the view through the gate. You could use your camera editing program, Photoshop or Paint to crop out the cars and the wires and frame a pretty picture indeed.

  9. TheChrisD – yup that’s the turn , in between the river and Fort Lucan – it’s a bitch of a turn to make in the hubbie’s car as it has a wide turning circle. The new yellow boxes on the road make it a little better now, but the worst is when you get stuck behind a pushbike heading up the hill – now that will destroy your clutch if you’re not careful!

  10. @GM and elly:

Yup, it’s a nightmare. Or at least it was 3 years ago, which is the last time I went down that road. As if it wasn’t bad enough that you’d probably be waiting ages when going down the hill because of someone who has no guts to go for it, you get the odd person getting stuck trying to go up the hill because of their huge turning circle!
